You can program most US cell phones to forward your missed calls to your Google Voice number. It’s called ‘conditional call forwarding’ and unless you are a Sprint customer, all you have to do is enter a special code number into your phone.
Look for your cell phone company in the table below. Dial the code number the same way you dial a regular phone number and press the Send or Call key. You must include the * and the # symbols. You should then see a message on your phone saying that call forwarding has been set up.
Any call you fail to answer will be forwarded to your Google Voice number, and Google Voice will take a message, transcribe it to text, and send it to an email address you provide. (You should turn off call screening and enable ‘Do Not Disturb’ in Google Voice, unless you want Google to try another phone number before taking a message.)
Combine this with Skydeck and you can keep track of all your calls, all your text messages, and all of your voicemails for free – that’s the Skydeck Google Voice mashup.

| Sprint | Call Sprint Technical Support at 888 211 4727 and ask to turn on “call forward busy” and “call forward no answer” for your cell phone. This means that your phone will ring as usual when you receive a call, but if you are busy or do not answer the call will go to Google Voice. When they ask what number to forward to, tell them your 10 digit Google Voice number. (Do not ask for “regular”, “normal”, or “immediate” call forwarding, or all of your calls will go to voicemail.) |
